The 2024 Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab ’57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Ultra Heavy Aged recreates the character of a well-played late-’50s Goldtop with historically inspired construction and extensive Murphy Lab aging. It pairs a maple top with a one-piece lightweight mahogany back, solid mahogany neck, and Indian rosewood fingerboard, with hide-glue construction used throughout key joints. The chunky C-shaped neck profile, long neck tenon, narrow/tall Historic Gibson frets, and period-correct hardware contribute to its vintage feel, while a pair of unpotted Alnico 3 Custombuckers delivers open, dynamic PAF-style tones. The Murphy Lab Ultra Heavy Aged nitrocellulose finish and heavily aged nickel hardware give the guitar the appearance and feel of an instrument that has seen decades of use.
