1993 Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul R9 1959 Reissue

Neck Depth: .91-1.02

The 1993 Gibson Custom Shop 1959 Les Paul Reissue represents the very beginning of what would become Gibson’s celebrated Historic Reissue program. Built during the era collectors often refer to as the “Good Wood” years, this first-year R9 features a highly flamed maple top with a deep-dish carve, Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish, smaller vintage-style peghead, elongated neck tenon, and numerous details intended to recreate an original 1959 Les Paul Standard. This example is number 61 of just 131 1959 Reissues produced in 1993, making it an especially early example from the inaugural year. Period details include the inked-on 1950s-style serial number, unmarked truss rod cover, plastic jack plate, consistent-width binding through the cutaway, and R9 stamp in the control cavity. The guitar has been refretted with jumbo frets, and the pickups appear to have been replaced. The neck pickup has a "Patent Applied For" sticker on its baseplate, while the bridge pickup has no identifying sticker; we are unable to confirm the manufacturer or exact model of either pickup.

Condition: Very Good. Dings are present along the edges of the headstock, with impressions on the top and sides. The guitar has been refretted with jumbo frets. The pickups appear to have been replaced; their exact manufacturer and model are unknown.
