Gibson Custom Shop 1959 Les Paul Standard BOTB 86 Murphy Lab Heavy Aged (189)

The Gibson Custom Shop 1959 Les Paul Standard BOTB 86 Murphy Lab Heavy Aged is a painstaking tribute to one of the most revered original Bursts ever documented in Beauty of the Burst. Part of Gibson’s Greatest Hits Collection, Volume II, this guitar recreates Burst #86 with obsessive attention to detail—capturing the look, feel, and voice of a true late-’50s original.

From the hand-selected figured maple top to the lightweight mahogany body joined with hide glue and a long tenon neck, every construction detail mirrors a golden-era 1959 Les Paul. The authentic ’59 Medium C neck profile delivers the familiar balance of fullness and comfort that defines legendary Bursts, while the rosewood fingerboard with aged cellulose trapezoid inlays completes the vintage-correct feel.

A pair of unpotted Custombucker Alnico III humbuckers provides the open, harmonically rich tone that made original PAF-equipped Les Pauls famous—clear, dynamic, and incredibly responsive to both touch and volume control changes. The Murphy Lab Heavy Aged finish adds deep checking, worn edges, and hardware patina that convincingly evoke decades of real-world use, making this instrument feel broken-in and inspiring from the first chord.

Built in extremely limited numbers, the BOTB 86 is not just a guitar—it’s a historically faithful recreation of one of the most iconic Les Pauls ever recorded, crafted for collectors and players who demand the highest level of authenticity from Gibson Custom Shop.
